Hey everyone

WOW we have had an amazing few weeks since we last put anything on here!  We had 4 nights in Cairo which weren't all that fantastic mainly due to the hotel.  We saw the pyramids, sphynx, mosques, museums etc and ate lots of falafels!

We then flew out to nairoi and then caught the very small connecting flight to Kilimanjaro to start our safari.  It has been absolutely perfect the whole entire way!  our first stop was the Serena Safari lodge in Arusha (just out of it) which was just like a dream!  it was so gorgeous over looking a little lake, and all set amongs gorgeous natural gardens.  We were a bit put out when they said we had to take a guide with us if we wanted to leave the resort grounds, due to wild animals and people etc.  We didnt do much that night except relax as we were pretty tired after travelling all night.

The next day we went for a 2 hour walk around rthe lake and saw lots of birds, and ants (which crawled up our jeans and bit our legs!)  After that 2 others joined our tour and we set off for our next destination - Lake Manyara.  We arrived at the lodge (again, SO so beautiful!) very late so we couldnt see the view, but the next morning we realised we were up really high and could see the massive lake and national park.  We set out early for our first game drive very excited and eager to see animals.  Well - animals we DID see that's for sure!  It started out slowly with glipmses of them hidden in all the bushes, but later on in the afternoon we encountered lots of giraffes up close, and heaps of massive elephants with their babies!   there were also tonnes of baboons all over the place, mostly blocking the road!  We also saw a big group of hippos in the water, making lots of loud snorting noises which were quite funny!

On the way out of Lake Manyara Park, we got blocked by a heard of elephants!  there was a massive male blocking the road, and then we saw lots of other female ones and 2 little babies that were so cute!

We then drove a long way past Ngorongoro crater and in to the Serengeti to our next lodge.  On the way we saw again, TONNES of zebra and wilderbeast all mixed in together through out the savannah.  We also had some giraffes crossing the road, and elephants again.  As the sun started to set our guide (Neekko, who has the most amazing eye sight I have ever known) spotted 2 male lions up on a hill!  further down the road we saw a lioness on top of a rock.

We got to the Serengeti lodge quite late, and had dinner and then went to bed.  We were quite surprised when they said we are not allowed to walk any where at night time without an armed escort, as wild animals can come in through the resort.  We thought they were overreacting and went home from dinner without one.

We got a very early wake up call 4.15am! for our balloon ride this morning, and not even 5 minutes out from the resort we saw a huge pack of lionesses with cubs, just lying all over the road!  We then realised that they werent kidding with the armed guard thing!  It was quite dark but we could see them all in the headlights, and they were very close up!

Our balloon ride was amazing, and we saw lots of the savannah, and some hippos.  We also realised the short falls of only having a small zoom lens, as there were some serios camera fanatics on board!  We had camera-lense envy after seeing some of their photo's!  After the flight they put on a champagne breakky in the middle of the savannah for us!

We then met our guide and the rest of our group, and headed off again on a safari drive through the Serengeti.  We saw SO many animals it was just breath taking.  The highlights of the day were having lunch in the jeep while looking at lions on a rock, seing a leopard in a tree, seeing heaps of lions in a tree, (and they were So close up they almost touched the jeep!) having a male giraffe stand in the clear, 10mtrs away from us posing!  and seeing lots more hippos.  I also like the warthogs and think they are rather cute!

We are now sitting back watching the most amazing sunset, over looking the Serengeti plain and having a Kilimanjaro beer with our new friends!  It is absolutely the most amazing thing by far being here, and we cant wait to see more!  Tomorrow we head off to Ngorongoro crater, which looks amazing again!  Will try and put some photos on here, but the connection is very weak so may only manage a few.  We have taken so so many photo's it's unbelievable, so will try and pick the best!

Lots of love
