We spent the Carnival Holidays in Atacama. We have been planning to visit this place for a long long time and finally the manage to get there. We flew from Sao Paulo to Santiago, spent the afternoon there where we ate a giant crab named Centolla. Next morning we flew from Santiago to Calama and the hotel picked us up and drove to San Pedro.
San Pedro de Atacama is a lovely city. Small, cozy and with good structure with restaurants, bars, travel agencies and whatever the traveler needs. And the architecture are very original, maintaining its origins. We have only 3 and a half days to explore the sights and we kept to basics. First afternoon we visited the death and moon valley to watch the sunset. Next day we bike to the Laguna Cesar, very easy, 20 km in a flat terrain, with the desert scenario all around, very beautiful, later we swam on a very salty lake. On the end of the second day we visit another part of Atacama Salar.
On the third day we spent the full day in the Lagunas Altiplanicas, very gorgeous lagoons at more than 4.000m above sea level. And on the last day we did the most famous and crowded spot, the Geysers. Beautiful, and VERY COLD, use all clothing that you have. On the way back to San Pedro we stop at Machuca Village very cozy too. We stayed in Alto Atacama, a five star hotel, very new (opened last September), and very good, with swimming pools, sauna and a wonderful bedroom. Bring a lot of moisturizer cream because it was the driest place we ever visited. More thumbnails ...
