The first thing we did when we were settled in, was to head down to the Sydney Opera House (of course). When we arrived we both looked at each other and laughed, we were standing in front of the most iconic building in Sydeny and all we could say was, "it's not as white as I imagined it to be." If you ever see it on tv or on a postcard or anything it looks pristine, in real life It looks yellow like it needs a good scrub lol
My hair was looking a bit tired after all the sea and sun in Asia (and not having it cut for 6 months didn't help) so Vanya kindly hooked me up with one her friends, Annita, that was in Sydney learning about a new colour product Wella will be releasing in February and needed a hair model. Unfortunately there wasn't time for a cut but I got a new colour that made my hair look a million times healthier and I love it! It was a fun experience too and something I'd definitely do again.
Coincidently, two guys that Sam went to college with are here in Sydney. Ben is living and working here permenantly and Dave is travelling with his girlfriend Louise. We all got together and went to Manly on the Ferry, the boys were fishing (and didn't catch anything) and I was chilling on the beach. One of Ben's friends has a space where he holds functions and dinner parties and decided to hold an orphans Christmas lunch for all of us in Sydney without family to spend the day with
Sam went at worked at a restaurant in Surry Hills called Bentley, he didn't love it as much as Loam but the food was still very good and he learned a lot. Check out Sam's food blog for more details.
Alex's (Sam's sister) two friends from school/uni, Louise and Holly, live in Sydney and are spending Christmas and New Year in Japan, they kindly said that we could stay in their house for the time that we were away! Just before they went we met up for a BBQ and then a beach trip to Balmorral.
We ventured to Rose Bay and ended up finding a foreshore nature walk and as we were walking Sam spotted a little break in the trees and there was a bit of a path that led down to the water. It is an amazing spot that looks directly onto the harbour bridge, apparently it's where the nuns used to bathe. If we hadn't already booked our tickets we would have definitely tried to sneak in there for New Years Eve.
On Christmas Eve we went to the Sydney fish market (which Sam said isn't as good as Billingsgate) and got some Oysters, Mussles and prawns and had a feast
The following day we all went to Summer Bay (palm beach) where they film home and away. We took a picnic and fishing gear and it turned out to be a really good day, even though the boys still didn't catch any fish. They were becoming desperate to catch a fish so a couple of days later after the sunburn had faded the three of them hired a boat. They went out at 7.30am for 4 hours and after chasing bonito and loosing the anchor they successfully caught 5 snapper and 2 whiting which were put on the BBQ later that evening; they were delicious!
The next day was New Years Eve! At around 7pm we headed to Rose Bay and caught a ferry across to Shatk Island, we were. Bit worried that we wouldn't get a great spot but once we got there Sam was straight on it and found us the most perfect spot ever
One evening we met Ben and Aaron and were having a few drinks at the Opera Bar and John Torode walked past. He was waiting to be served at the bar so I went over, told him that the 3 chefs I was sitting with (they really are all chefs) were dying have a picture with him. He happily agreed and came over for a quick snap! We also saw Mel B going for a run when we went to Watsons Bay ...Sydney is the place to be!
Through Sam's friend Ben we have met the best people, Aaron who is also a chef, Chloe his flat mate and Ellena & Becky the girls from Kent (I love them!). We went to the National park, which is beautiful an then went to Aaron's for dinner. That evening my stomach was hurting from laughing so much, our conversation was the strangest ever! They're all going camping a few days after we leave Sydney and I'm gutted that we can't go & so excited to see the pictures (they are are getting animal onesies!)
We had a little farewell dinner today and it was fun (as always) but a bit sad to leave these guys behind, I can't wait to see them all again (you are all amazing!)
Lots of Love
