We arrived on Koh Samui having booked 3 nights accommodation at Sandy Beach Resort, Bophut. The pictures looked ok on agoda and it was only £12 a night so we really wasn't expecting much and was just glad to have a pool and be quite close to the beach. We couldn't believe our luck, this place could easily be 4 or 5 star resort, it was perfect! The pool area is lovely and has steps leading down to the beach with beds that can only be used by the hotel guests. The rooms were clean and spacious and come with free wifi. We liked it so much that we booked another three nights and literally chilled for the 6 nights.

Down the road from us was a place called The Fishermans Village which is an area buzzing with restaurants and bars, each Friday they have a huge market which is excellent you must check it out! In the Bophut area there are loads of fancy hotels and fine dining restaurants (I had to tear Sam away from a few), we had a lovely strawberry mojito in one of the posh hotels and sat around on one of the beds by the pool which looked out over the beach.

We went to see the big buddah, Sam went fishing (so did I and caught 3 fish!) and we also went to see some waterfalls. Our tour guides were about 5 and 6 years old and we had to ell through jungle to get to the falls and we got bitten alive! This was not one of my favourite trips!

After relaxing a bit too much we got the ferry to Koh Tao. We booked to do our PADI open water diver course, this included 4 dives and lots of theory work! The course was spread over 4 days and with this was four days accommodation. We upgraded our room (surprise surprise lol) because it didn't have air con, there was no toilet seat, it smelt and the door didn't shut properly. Once we moved we were told that we were 'flash packers not back packers' which I completely agree with and I know a lot of people back home would agree too! So our new room is decent with air con and an open air shower (very cool!).

Our dives were great, setting up our own equipment and learning hand signals and safety manoevers. At one point the surf was really bad and the current was so strong as we were preparing to go down, (and Sam started floating away!) it was pretty scary but once we were under the water everything was fine. On the dives that followed we were much more relaxed and the sea was calm. We had our final exam, final dives and hey presto 2 qualified divers!

We decided to stay one more night and today we did a deep dive in a place called Champon which was amazing, we went to 28.3 metres and saw millions of fish including a groupa that was huge about 1m long! Then we moved to another site and went to a shipwreck which was very cool, we're just gutted that we couldn't buy an underwater camera. Both of these dives contribute to our advanced open water certification, 3 more adventure dives and that's us. We've seen some amazing places we can dive in Malaysia so we just need to get planning.

We are going to head back to Koh Samui tomorrow for one chill out time after 5 days diving, we're also going to plan our next move and find out about making our way through Malaysia. We can't believe we've been away for 9 weeks, the time is going so fast!

Love from
