Alex: We really only stopped in Greymouth to break up the journey to Franz Josef as our AA map route planner had said it would take 7 hours just to get from Kaikora to Greymouth - it actually took 4 hours! The journey was spectacular though, and we went the Lewis Pass route not the much lorded Arthur's Pass. Even though we could have easily made it to Franz Josef time wise, we had a hostel booked in Greymouth and this is Easter Weekend so we stopped anyway. As it was Easter Sunday there wasn't much going on (make that anything) so after a short walk along the river and through the town we just really sat and read and watched TV. See even we have boring days!
