Alex: São Paulo is a big city and, reputedly, quite dangerous so we were keen to get the metro and get to our hostel before darkness and not walk around the city with our big backpack - the best laid plans and all. The usually trusty lonely planet had put the hostel in completely the wrong place and the second place we had chosen no longer seemed to exist so after wandering for far too long, and not feeling entirely comfortable we checked into the nearest hotel, which turned out to be really nice and pretty reasonable. We were in Liberdad one of the safer districts and also, happily the Asian district - joy! After good, cheap, Chinese food and cable TV we slept very happily!
The next day we got up late (shocker) and went for a "snack" in a nearby oriental fast food place. Turns out it was a Brazilian favorite, a "by the kilo" buffet, it was also delicious and our snack didn´t remain so for very long (where else can you buy Sushi for $6 a kilo?). Fully sated we head off to see the city. São Paulo isn`t exactly stacked with tourist attractions but it is a pleasant enough place with lots of busy pedestrianised streets and pretty squares, both the main ones were under construction unfortunately. A fair bit of wandering later (and only one uncomfortable moment and area which we exited quickly) and we headed to catch our night bus to Foz do Iguaçu, the town on the Brazilian side of the Iguazu/Iguaçu falls (depending on where you are in the world).
