Alex: Paraty is only about 4 hours from Rio and seems to be a popular Brazilian holiday destination and rightly so. The town itself is all quaint cobbled streets and little colonial buildings, the shore is backed with steep jungle covered mountains and the coast line is breathtaking coves and shallow warm waters. We left cloudy Rio and arrived in this sunshine filled Paradise. We found a reasonable-ish hotel (this is peak season in a prime location, nothing is cheap, especially after Bolivian prices!) and checked out the town and pretty much instantly decided to stay longer than the day we had planned.
The next day it rained a little in the morning and was a bit overcast but by the afternoon was  sunny again leaving us plenty of time to bronze ourselves on the beach and when the clouds came in again in the afternoon it was just a good excuse to have a Chopp and a Pastie. Yes, I did just say Pastie, they have them here too, although they are more like giant empanadas with thinner pastry than at home but still really good - and did I mention giant, the ones we had were 30cms! Yum!
The next day we woke up to more rain, far heavier than the day before, and, having exhausted all non-beach related activities the day before, we decided it was a sign to head out to So Paulo and were up and ready in time to make the 9.40 bus. Let me just point out that although we left in time to make the bus it does not mean we in fact made it, there were no tickets left for that or the next bus so we ended up on the 13.40 bus - after all that rushing too! A little of internet time later and a bite to eat and it was soon time to head off. The scenery was amazing, more jungle, mountains and fantastic coast and at least we got to So Paulo before dark!
Due to our lazy schedule and impromptu departure there are not photos of Paraty Im afraid - you will just have to use your imaginations and dream!
