Dean: Well, we are now over four months into our trip - only eight more months to go! It seems so much longer than four months when I think of all of the things we have done and places we have been/seen so far. On the other hand, it does not really seem four months ago that I was sat in my little shared office with Anne, listening to the PKT team outside doing their impressions of Star Wars characters (yes Dave and P, I mean you)! Within some of our e-mail conversations, people have asked "Are you home sick yet?". Well, no! We are having far too much fun to be home sick, but we do miss some things, like seeing our families and friends, English food (occasionally, i.e. curries, salt & vinegar crisps!), The Millstone and JarBar (our local pubs), and our house (which we had only just got to know).
Looking back on our trip so far, I was pleasantly surprised by North America and there are a number of places that I know we will return to (and places we have missed that we want to see on future trips). We are also shocked to have to say that the best beer we have had (since we left home) has been in the United Stated! Yes, thatīs right - but not Bud; we found that they do some really great local microbrews in the states. Central America was much more (better) than I expected. The diversity of places and people make it a great place to be, and I have fallen in love with diving in the Caribbean Sea!
We are now in South America, in Quito, which has changed since we were here last (about five years ago). It seems to have come on in leaps and bounds and is a very cosmopolitan place to be. We are really looking forward to the South American part of our trip - we are planning to be in South America for about five months. To start it off we are heading out to the Galapagos Islands, as this is something we regreted not doing while we were here last time. What a great way to start this leg of our journey...
