On the way over here we were told by a fellow traveller that there are three lies commonly spoken on Utila:- 1)"I'm only staying a few days." 2)"I'm not drinking tonight!" and 3)"I'm leaving tomorrow." I thought that he was talking through his...
The diving is absolutely excellent. I'm totally hooked. It rates even higher than bungee jumping, parachuting and even kickboxing! I have just completed my Open Water Diver Course (yeah me!) and tomorrow I am starting the Advanced Open Water Diver Course. This means that I can do further dives as we carry on travelling (e.g. Costa Rica, Panama, Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, Australia), if I get the urge...
Heading off for some food now but I will carry on telling you all about it tomorrow! You may have noticed that I'm really excited about it all!!!
Alex: As you will be able to gather Dean loves diving - I hate it and didn't even finish my open water! I had some Asthma issues so was told I couldn't dive at one dive school so I went elsewhere (after a very interesting trip to the doctors - it took from 7am to 12pm to have a basic check up, the doctor was an American with a massive beard, bright Hawaian shirt, mismatched shorts and industrial specs and, like many people here, didn't wear any shoes.) I tried going into the water on 3 separate occasions and even did one of the skills (emptying my mask) but I just felt so clumsy and bulky that my whole body was screaming to go to the surface

We did two deep dives (one to 30m), a wreck dive (which was so cool even though we did not get to go inside the ship, as you need even more training for that...), plus a few others to get me to the advanced level. All in all I was very happy in Utila! I really like the diving but Iīm not sure it will be the same in the North Sea! Maybe check out Cornwall or if thatīs no good the Med...
