Dean: Although we had a good time in Mexico (excluding my illness issues!), I was not overly taken with it. I suppose it just didn't do it for me (but I will come back at some point and check out the Yucatan area and maybe reassess my option). However Guatemala is an amazing place. It seems to be so much more greener than Mexico. We are only here for five days but, given the opportunity in the future, I would love to come back.

Flores is really nice - it's a small village on a lake island, the main industry being tourism (it's a good base for people visiting the ruins at Tikal). The lake views are stunning but our guide book warned us not to swim in it (still don't know exactly why!). We went to a few nice restaurants and generally continued our chilling out!

Tikal was well worth the visit. Out of the three sites we have visited we thought this was the best. There was just so much to see and the jungle back-drop was amazing (without the humidity we encountered at Palenque). Seeing some of the ruins being excavated was interesting (you can see in one of the pictures a half-excavated temple - it must take a lot of work to rediscover them fully). We also encountered some more wildlife - spider monkey's I think. They were also chilling out in the midday heat, occasionally moving from one tree to another above our heads. It was a really nice experience (and I think it will rate quite highly for Alex in the things we have seen so far - she got very excited about the monkey's!). We also saw some Tucans.

Our next stop is the Caribbean coast of Belize, where we will be chilling out for three days before we get a ferry over to Hondoras, where we are hoping to do a PADI Diving course (so more chilling out really!). Are you seeing a trend here...
