Through the Copper Canyon to Creel

Dean: We had a bit of a problem with our tickets for the railway - not enough cash for the return tickets we wanted and the phone line was down so they were not accepting credit cards! After a very painful 10 minutes of semi-communications with the attendant, we opted for one-way tickets to Creel (probably for the best, see below...). The views up were very good, but (maybe because we have been spoilt by the Canadian Rockies, Yellowstone and Yosemite) we were expecting more. The train stopped one stop before Creel and we were transferred to buses. The explanation was that there was a blockage up ahead but the two security guards on the bus made us think otherwise. As it turned out, it was a blockage. Up ahead one of the bridges had collapsed while one of the trains went over it. We saw the pictures in the paper the following day and it was a mess. Luckily it had been a freight train - if it had been a passenger train it would have been very messy. We both felt a bit shocked - it could have very easily been our train. Looks like we had a lucky escape here.
Alex: Our train would have been the next one over that bridge - how scary is that. The journey was pretty but it seems we have been spoiled, also it was very cloudy and foggy so visability wasn't too good but all the same we felt a little disappointed.
Once we got to the hostel we heard the thing that had been missing the previous couple of days - Engilsh. I think until our Spanish improves we will be avoiding the out of the way places. That said I think it is improving already. More thumbnails ...

Hi you two, Hope Mexico lives up to all your expectations. I'm sure it will. Hope you won big in Vegas. Thanks for your postcard (New York). You have finally prompted me into getting my backside into gear and booking my trip to NY (next April). Lovin the blog. Take care
