Alex: As we were so close we decided to spend a day in Yosemite National Park. Wow. Itīs as though someone took all the bits that make a place pretty and inflated them! The trees are big Redwoods, the Valley sides are sheer granite, the rivers and streams are excruciatingly pretty. Unlike Yellowstone there are good shuttle services around the park and a bus going into the park so we didnīt need to hire a car. As we only had a day we decided to hike up to Vernal falls. This is obviously a popular trail as people were flooding up the 600 granite steps to get to the top, but it was worth it - the falls were spectacular. In some points we had water spray hitting us and we has to remind ourselves that the falls were at their lowest, I canīt imagine what they are like in the spring. We were going to walk all the way to Nevada falls but once again we decided to choose the heat of the day to take our walk so we thought better of it. Once we had walked down we decided to go to Mirror Lake which is supposed to reflect all the scenery around it which was a bit of a disappointment the lake just looked like a muddy green lake and reflected nothing - oh well the walk up had been nice. We got an earlier bus back than we intended as we were a bit knackered (bike riding one day, bus journey followed by a hike takes it out of you). So we used the "restrooms" in the hotel in Yosemite to freshen up and get changed for our bus journey (they always go mad on the a/c), had some Korean food in Merced (hot spicy tofu soup with rice and loads of side dishes all for about $7 - bargain) and got our 11.30 bus to Vegas via LA...
