Where I stayed
The train to Phunphin was fun, mainly because we had bunks – like in the movies! That said bunks did not equal a great night's sleep – the lights shining straight into the top bunks and the train’s jerking and noises rudely awakening us.
Off the train at Phunphin there were two coaches for those who had bought through tickets and people going to three locations. We were harangued onto a coach with a load of people going to Phuket (west) while we were going to Samui (east). We were a little concerned about this – especially with our experience yesterday – but the people going to Phuket were then unceremoniously dumped in a coach/travel agents 15 minutes in the wrong direction leaving three of us on the coah to Samui – most strange
The ferry ride was lovely – blue sea, dotted with forested islands. And it was then just a quick songthaw ride (jeep with two benches and a canopy roof) to the villa. The songthaw was entertaining as we wordlessly made friends with a lovely Thai family – I think I debut in some of their holiday snaps…
The villa is gorgeous – I can see we’ll get a lot of use out of the pool, and our bed was covered with rose petals – well this is almost our (third) honeymoon! The island is beautiful, lots of white sand beaches, palm trees and more of the same on surrounding island.
After the first of many dips in the pool we pootled into Bangrak to get our bearings, plan our week, and get a couple of beers. We topped the day off with a panang curry – my favourite and something I hope to learn to cook while we are here.
