After a well deserved (well needed at least) lie in we were on the move again. Onward to Nakhon Pathom where we are getting the night train south.

It turn out to be a day (or morning at least) of transport excitement. We had our first tuk tuk ride to the bus station, not the Bangkok style tuk tuk though. In Kanchanaburi they are motorbikes with a platform attached to the side with an L-shaped seat and canopy. Not fancy but it got us there!

We spent the last half of the bus journey looking for our stop which was described in detail in our Rough Guide. When we finally checked with the driver (lots of pointing and repeating of "Nakhon Pathom" to convince him we really didn't want to go to Bangkok) we discovered we’d missed it.

We ended up getting a taxi which cost more than two bus tickets. You live and learn. The blokes who helped us find a taxi (from outside the Tesco Lotus) and the taxi driver were lovely – despite us only sharing 2 common words, lots of gesturing!

Fortunately the train station has left luggage – another blisteringly hot day and I really don’t want a backpack on top of that.

There is a huge bronze tiled chedi here – legend has it where Buddha rested when he visited Thailand. It’s pretty fantastic. Also great is the indoor and outdoor market between the chedi and the train station. Lots of fascinating food and bit and pieces – mounds of chillies, fish waiting to be sold living in puddles of bubbling water, durian, kebabs…

We had a bit too much time in Nakhon Pathom so opted for lots of well iced drinks as close to a fan as we can manage.
