hostel Ruca

Arrived in the pouring rain and we were completely soaked by the itme we found a hostel. Hostel Ruca is a really cute little wooden cottage. The owner lit the log fire to dry our clothes and her husband  Leon Lopez (who is the only chilean to go to space!) showed us to our cosy attic room.

We had a walk into town and to the lake but it was too cloudy to see volcano Osorno. It started to hailstone so we sheltered in a big white tent in the Plaza de Armas where there was an easter fair on selling handmade chocolates and gingerbread rabbits (not as good as your chocolates though Mum).

Our hostel was overlooking the Iglesia del sagrado corazon, a church replica of the famous Marienkirche in the black forest in Germany. We watched people marching past our hostel and praying near the church on good friday.

We couldnt get a bus ticket to Argentina until easter Sunday so relaxed around the hostel, enjoying Chilean food cooked by a man whos been to space and being entertained by the family puppies whilst drinking Chilean wine.
