English - Next stop Jaisalmer AKA Massive Sand Castle in the desert. Situated 160km from the Pakistan boarder in the middle of The Great Thar desert and dominated by a huge sand stone fort that literally rises out of the desert. We stayed in a guest house inside the walls of the fort overlooking the city palace. While here we went on a camel safari for 2 days in the desert. This was incredible and one of the best things we have done so far. We were taken an hour away from the town by jeep through the desert to rendezvous with our transport (Victor and Mr India) and guides (Raju and Socka). Camels are probably the most chilled out animals I have ever met, they even sit down to let you get on. We spent two days trekking through the desert, cooking chapatti on an open fire and visiting a desert village. We camped out on the dunes in our sleeping bags, went to sleep listening to Raju and Socka's songs and awoke to chai and the sun rising over the desert. I thought living with 3 lads in one house at UNI was bad but you try camping down wind of camels, not a pleasant aroma that is for sure. Also inhabiting the dunes are thousands of dung beetles and these guys are cool! They trek about all night looking for fresh dung to wheel back to their little caves, pushing up the dunes and rolling down them with the dung - hilarious! We wish we could have stayed for longer but we had a train to catch to the Punjab and the rocking motion was beginning to ruin my chances of future fatherhood.
