English - We left Goa at 8am - destination Hampi. We took a local bus here and were told it would take 8 hours... famous last words. 13 hours later, same seat, same local bus we arrive in Hampi in the dark. Was it worth it? Well, when the sun rose over the bolder strewn, mountainous landscape at 6:30am the next day we knew we were in for a treat. Hampi, once the capital of one of the great Hindu empires with a population of 500,000 is now a deserted rock city set amongst mountains, boulder, rivers and paddy fields. This place is picture postcard heaven. We hired beaten up bicycles and toured the area, climbed the many steps up a mountain to a temple - home to loads of thieving monkeys! We also stumbled across an amazing lake, an oasis in the middle of this stunning landscape and had a swim in the 40 degree heat. The ruins of the city are just as mesmerizing as the landscape itself, ancient temples, massive baths, stables for elephants and huge palaces. We stayed in a bamboo hut for 2 quid a night with a view of the rice paddies and river and took a trip on a traditional boat called a coracle made from palm leaves and looks like half a coconut. Hampi is one of the best places in India we have seen so far and was exactly the reason we came traveling!!! A snake decided to make our porch its home and when we saw it, although smaller and previous ones had exactly the same effect on Klarka....my ears are still recovering - god help me in Oz!

Czech -Nase dalsi cesta putovala do mista zvane Hampi.
