Life can be pretty cool sometimes!! You never really know what's just around the corner. I love it when you are still deep in a recent experience, something that occurred a few days ago, perhaps you are still on a bit of high, or even a low …..And then BAM and all of a sudden without any warning you find yourself in the middle of another……….this one like no other. My words can’t do this justice!

Alex asked me to set the timer for 5 minutes, she often does this, and normally I get a polite yell while she is in the kitchen working on something delicious. If this was any normal 5 minute countdown, I'd be sitting back, relaxing and content in the fact that soon I’d be eating something yummy. (I can’t believe that I’m equating this with food).

This was no normal countdown…..

This 5 minutes was different, I was more anxious this time around, I nervously looked at my watch.....it feels like an eternity has already passed…..surely it must be getting close now......NO, still 4 and a half minutes to go.

We'd had a great day in Istanbul today, we feel more at home here this time around and for the first time the sun was shining and the sky blue, it was still a little chilly but now just comfortable without gloves or a beanie…….Today Alex held my hand a little tighter, perhaps with excited anticipation or maybe a little fear and trepidation, whatever it was, it was strong.

It was important that we got the 5 minutes correct. We'd used Google to translate the pamphlet from Turkish to English. I sure hope we've understood the instructions correctly.

We spent the day taking a ferry ride to the Asian side of the city, across the Bosphorus, just to explore and just for the day, next time however, on Saturday it will be for good, after 11 months in Europe, we are heading in a more homely direction….yes after today we definitely need to start thinking about home.

Well before the time was up, a result appeared, 2 little lines on the white plastic device stared back at us with "your life is about to change" intensity. Of all our devices not one is as cheap and disposable as this one, however nor is any other capable of delivering such powerful news.

The ferry ride back to the European continent was one to remember, and after briefly cursing myself for having a flat camera battery we were able to enjoy the late afternoon light. It was one of those sunsets where the sun glows extra orange because of the haze in the air. The orange setting sun gave an amazing backdrop to the Istanbul skyline showing the minarets of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque in all their glory. We weren’t the only ones basking in the alluring light……a pod of dolphins decided to join the bow waves of our boat adding to the scene.

For the last 2 minutes of the countdown we stared intently at the little piece of plastic, waiting for any change but hoping that there would be none.

Well, can the day get any better, sunshine, a beautiful sunset and a ferry ride with a pod of dolphins…….well yes it can get better, it can definitely get a whole lot better.

Tick……Tick…..Tick.…..beep…….those two little lines remained two little lines……an extraordinarily happy and slightly scary POSITIVE result………. at the end of this countdown I didn’t get something yummy, but something lovely happened and today marks the start of another very big journey for us. Except this time there's going to be three of us sharing the adventure!

It was definitely a very special day in Istanbul!

Wow! Congrats! Now that is NOT an experience we had while in Istanbul. I did get shit on by a pigeon...but that's not really the same at all, is it?

I'm sure you'll enjoy the different light this sheds on the rest of your trip.

OH MY GOD!! That is unreal!!! Such lovely news guys! I'm already mentally going through the toy box saving the really noisy toys for you! And I'll donate my baby bath so the kid doesn't have to bath in the esky. (not that I'd think badly of any parent using the esky as a baby bath) xxx
