Well, we pedalled as fast as we could, but it was just not fast enough. We really wanted to go to the wedding of our mountain climbing, marathon running Polish friends, but thanks to Alex's little visa issue we were a few weeks late. However despite our extreme tardiness Michael & Marta kindly invited us to come and stay with them in Warsaw. And we even got to see them all dressed up in their wedding outfits because they had their wedding photos taken the weekend we were there. Strange as that may seem it's apparently quite common to have a second photo shoot after the wedding, the idea being that you have more time to spend with your guests on the actual wedding day. And once we knew about this we kept seeing brides and grooms posing for photos all around the city.

As well as catching up on all Michael & Marta's recent adventures, including all the excitement of the wedding, we spent a lot of time exploring the city. We learnt about Warsaw's wartime history at the uprising museum, saw some satisfyingly weird artworks at the contemporary art gallery and also hit the streets in some of the more grungier, soon-to-be-hip areas of the city. We also tested lots of different types of pierogi, and saw the latest Woody Allen film at the enormous Soviet Palace of Culture. A real highligh was spending a few hours at a park near the centre of town on a Sunday afternoon listning to a Chopin Piano recital, it was a perfect blue sky day and there must have been about 1000 people croweded around a lady pumping out some beautiful tunes. It felt like we hadn't been in a big city for a while and with so much going on there wasn't enough time to see or do it all, but we had fun trying.

We really hope M&M come to Australia some time soon so we can return the hospitality.......and yes Michael and Marta you are welcome at our place any time....you are welcome at our place anytime......you are welome at our place any time........I hope that's clear!! We hear Sydney does a good marathon, and we promise to arrange a big cheer squad for you!!
