Today I chose to go to the Malioboro area which is a big shopping area. Just before breakfast, I got to talking to my neighbour who was from the Netherlands ans had been on the road for more than a year. She stopped to work in Oz for a while in between travelling.

I had breakfast at the hotel and then covered myself in cream in order not to burn today because basically I got sun burnt yesterday. Even with the cream it was still very hard to walk in the sun so I had to stop regularly to stay in the shade.

On my way, I came across the Sultan's Palace and went in for a visit. I paid this guy at the entrance but it did not look very official so maybe it was free to get in but he gave me a tour so that was cool. The Sultan actually lives in Yogyakarta permanently but has something like 5 residences - my guide had been working at the palace for 5 years and has never met him yet!

I then moved onto the Pasar Burung Ngasem which is the bird market. It was really cool as they don’t only sell birds but dogs, cats, snakes, rabbits and so on. They also bird food like worms, ants and some sort of cricket - I actually thought they were for humans at first but was quite relieved to hear it was for the animals.

Malioboro was okay but I was not really in a shopping mood so I just walk through it and went to the station to book my train ticket for the next day. I had to wait for almost 1 hour only to find out, at first, that the train I wanted was full - Oh dear!!! But all of a sudden, she found me this seat on a different train, slightly earlier, and it was half the price!!

When I got back to the hotel, I jumped straight into the pool as it was really hot. For dinner, I chose to go to Via Via and once again the food was just absolutely gorgeous!
