There's no better way to put it- Indonesia is a place of extremes.
Driving back through town tonight in the back of a beaten up old mini van with no windows or doors (the most common form of transport in Bogor aka Angkot), I peered out into the darkness to behold a young guy sporting a shirt with the slogan "Does this condom make me look fat?". That could have been a normal sight back in oz with the exception that standing directly next to him was a middle-aged woman, his mother or aunt, wearing a headscarf and traditional muslim dress... Tidak apa apa! (no worries!) In other news...I've moved into my new house and have furniture AND the internet- exciting stuff! I've included some pics from the move-in day, when a heap of boys from school came over to help me move furniture etc. Watching 13 boys fight over who got to carry my cupboard upstairs was quite amusing : ) Everyone has been really helpful actually, so moving in has been a piece of cake (besides the cockroach infestation...but i've successfully gassed about 4 generations of keluarga cockroach now so it's all good!- and no, i don't feel guilty even though i'm vego, in case you were wondering...)
Last weekend i visited Carlena in Indramayu- great fun, even though i ended up on a train back to Jakarta without a seat! I ended up sitting on the floor between some woman's legs, trying to avoid water droplets from the air-con directly above. I also nearly got very lost, but fortunately everywhere i go there are helpful Indonesians ready to adopt me until i get where i need to be. Work is going really well, but i'll save that for another update. I'll end with a CONGRATULATIONS to Peg and Dave (aka Aunt and Uncle) for reaching their 38th wedding anniversary today!!! May there be many more loud, fun, exciting times and bottles of Moet ahead! xxxx More thumbnails ...
