Johor Bahru - the very southern tip of mainland Malaysia.
Tipped off it was cheaper to fly from Johor Bahru to Borneo, we bought tickets to fly from the very place. But where shall we stay for a few nights? I checked out the internet. The first article I read informed me the city was riddled with gangsters and men with tattoos! Foolishly enough and against all that I have learned regarding scare stories, I fell for it, "Tweeks, we are staying in a posh hotel and that is the end of it!" It turned out very nicely I have to say though. Thanks to a gift from friends we were able to afford 2 nights stay in a luxury hotel in Johor Bahru - the very southern tip of mainland Malaysia. Our hotel overlooked the Johor Straits and across into Singapore. The nice Polish girl on reception even gave us an upgrade to a much nicer room. We had carpet and a bath! We spent our time enjoying the surroundings and getting some wonderful un-disturbed sleep, while the air conditioner froze our eyelids shut as we snored. Bliss.
