Kota Bahru
Entry 29 of 64 | show all | print this entry |
Ramadam was in full swing when we arrived in Malaysia. This meant that all Muslim run eateries were closed in the day until after sundown, after which time they could all fill up on the food and water that they had been abstaining from since sunrise. Their fasting lasts for 4 weeks, the culmination of which is the celebration of the Muslim New Year, better known as Hari Raya.
We'd decided that we'd head straight for the Perhentian Islands - after all, its not like we'd been spending much time on beaches lately.....
We'd got the train all of the way to the Thai border and from the Malay side we got a 2hr taxi ride to the port - Kota Bahru. We got our tickets and had about an hour to kill before the boat left for the islands. We decided to stay on 'Long Beach' on 'Small Island'.
