On arrival in the Provincial capital of Kratie, we met Dary. The only female motorbike taxi driver in Senmonorom, and coming to think of it, maybe the only one we have seen in our entire travels. In asia the moto taxi is common place. Either way, a very determined, strong girl working extremely hard to support her family. Kratie, much like the rest of cambodia is VERY poor. Dary has long term plans it would seem, to help her fellow cambodians. While she herself is hardly fincailcally well positioned to help, she knows the people, the land and the way the world here works. Maybe with support she'll get her ideas underway one day soon. As she is aware though, not for somethime yet.

We spent maybe two days in total with Dary, and on one her friend Sol also. We puttered off early into the countryside, before the sun was too high. It gets pretty warm over here even though its the wet season. And it being the wet season means that much of the country side is treated to flooding. Dary took us to one such flooded area. We hopped into a boat hollowed from a tree trunk. The local fella paddled us across to his village that was now an island. We spent some hours meeting locals, trying local alternative medicine and taking pics. It was very peaceful. And probably most importantly, wasn't a designated tourist village. We were the only strangers in the place, and to the locals we were a source of interest. Perfect. The village was home to maybe 1000. All homes are made from wood and supported on stilt legs to avoid the same flooding that had turned them into an island. This flooding can last from a few weeks to a few months. In the meantime, they have to stop their regular farm work and resort to fishing.
