Hoi An

Hoi An was my favourite place in Vietnam. A wonderful, old looking place with narrow streets and barely any traffic, compared to the big cities, that is.
It's right on the coast and so a lovely, sandy beach was within 4km of our hotel. The sea is really warm and has a few waves to splash about in. It was very clean too. The town is renowned for its tailors shops. It is said that you can buy yourself a whole new, made-to-measure wardrobe of clothes for about $100. Not even H&M can promise that kind of value, know what I mean girls?? Most of the clothes comissioned take less than 24hrs to be made and fitted. You simply turn up, flick through their many current Next catalogues or magazine cut-outs until you find roughly what you're after. Let them know what styling you'd like on the garment, choose the fabric and that's it! The do wedding dresses, designer stuff, pretty much anything you want, you can get.
Apart from that, there's the great food around and about. We found a lovely little restaurant which did the best fish I've tatsed in a long time. It was so nice that I went for a cookery course there one morning to learn how to make it. Chinny popped along later to share the little feast that I'd cooked up. I'm looking forward to being able to make it all when I get home. It was from Hoi An that we arranged a 5 day bike tour with a guy recommended to us by a couple of lovely Kiwis we met on our Ha Long bay trip. More thumbnails ...
