It's another large, very modern city. From here we were meant to get our Vietnamese visa sorted and then get ourselves over to see Tiger Leaping gorge.
We left our passports and visa application with the Vietnamese consulate on the 10th - this gave us a few days to travel to Tiger Leaping gorge and get back in time to collect our visas and leave for the border. We needed to be out of China by the 17th July. No problem.........right?
So we booked our sleeper bus ticket to the town of Lijiang and booked our bus ticket to the border town for the 15th July. We planned to get back to Kunming on the 14th

.It wasn't until we were having our lunch that same day that I realised the flaw in our otherwise really great plan.
The 14th/15th July were a Sat and Sun.............which meant that the consulate would be closed..............which meant that we couldn't get our passports before leaving Kunming. Ooops.
We canceled our sleeper bus to Lijiang, missing out on the gorge, and stayed in Kunming for a little rest. This was a bit of a blessing as Chinny was feeling ill and probably not really up to doing a 2 day hike along a gorge......in the pouring rain.
Instead we relaxed .....a lot. We'd also planned to meet up with a guy that we'd met in Chengdu for a night out.
This we managed to do and so had our first big night out since leaving the UK and after a few drinks we went to a club for some dancin'. The club was a tad odd - really great music (some British DJ was playing) but no dance floor......still, that wasn't going to stop us. We used every available space but the good music didn't last for long. A local DJ took over and we were in Euro-dance central ........ time to go. We went on to spend 4 hours in KTV - Karaoke bar - and before we knew it the sun was making an appearance on the horizon and we headed 'home'. Great night
