We got an over night local train from UB to the border town of Zamyn Uud. From there we got a jeep with three Israeli's to cross the border into China. One of them being Chiko (a gregarious guy who we'd spent most of our time with in Mongolian), the other two Chiko had met the previous day.
The jeep was driven by an absolute nutter. BUT he did get us across the border much quicker than if he'd driven politely. The jeeps are only supposed to hold four passengers and so I had to hide in the back seat for a few moments whilst some border guards had a quick check inside. I wasn't very well hidden and it seems that they turn a blind eye to the shenanigans.
We needed to exit through Mongolian customs and fill out two forms each.
Then we were driven across the border to Chinese customs for more of the same but with very helpful staff.
From there we were driven to the bus station in the Chinese border town to get the overnight bus to Beijing. This has to have been the most uncomfortable nights sleep I've had so far on this trip.
