brody and i enjoyed a romantic heterosexual getaway in paris. it's almost disgusting how romantic that place is. i really under estimated it.

we arrived during a snow storm (by paris standards) and we immediately greeted outside of gare du nord by some gypsies trying to trick us into giving them money. americans sure do stick out. i eventually learned to just answer with a thick french "noh" whenever asked if i was american.

we walked around. we walked everywhere... except we took the bus back to (near) our hotel in the sex district (it was cheaper. give me a break). the bus was interesting. i felt i understood pretty well what street and area our hotel was on... and looking at the bus routes i found the one that went right by it... but when on the bus i found that our bus driver didn't speak english and i didn't know how much the fare was. i succumbed to just holding out my hand with 3 euros in it. he took 2. seemed right.now the hard part was figuring out when to get off the bus. all the streets look the same. all the pronounciations of streets sounded the same. and the marquee showing you what stop it was did not seem to match with the route map i had looked at earlier. so i made an estimation when to get off based on how long i thought it would drive the distance we walked. i wasn't far off. we ended up right near the moulin rouge which was only a few blocks from our hotel. well done.

i helped a lady carry a stroller down the steps from sacre coeur. i tried to make french small talk and said that it was "tres froid" and then she agreed and said something about her kids school. i said goodbye to avoid letting on that i had no idea what she said.

brody and i watched the sunset over paris on our last night there. we both agreed that this city would be much better served with person of the opposite sex on a romantic getaway and we felt we had somewhat wasted the experience on each other.... oh well. it was wonderful and at least the wine was cheap there... too cheap.
