Woke up early and hungover. Got the bus at 8. Monteverde's roads are all dirt tracks with massive potholes to stop big tourism development in the area. Very long, bumpy, squashed and hungover drive to Tamarindo. The driver kept stopping to see wildlife, but there never was any. We got stuck when a lorry in front burst a tyre.
Got to Tamarindo at lunch time, tried to ring Steph on Skype but all internet and phone lines were down. Found some friends from the school and sorted out some bus tickets to the independence day (tomorrow). Finally managed to Skype Steph (with a webcam!) for 2 hours. I checked back into the Coral Reef Hostel. It felt great being back in Tamarindo.
My dorm was full of stoned Israelis listening to Hebrew rap
Friday 25th July
Met at the school and caught an 8am bus to Liberia, arranged by the school. At 10am there was a small carnival with floats and lots of children dressed up in traditional clothes, then not much else happened for another 6 hours. We walked around for a bit and at lunch time headed to where the festival was taking place. Got quite drunk at 3 playing Kings. I got some nice noodles from a stand but found loads of hair in it.
We went to a Rodeo show, some others had been to a proper local one in Brasolito but this was a much bigger event. It was good but seemed a bit touristy, the riders were wearing helmets. Also, in Brasolito there were drunk Ticos running across the field and having a go - more injuries and probably more fun.
We headed back to Tamarindo and I met some nice American and Dutch people staying at the hostel. Then the Israelis got back and got stoned again.
Saturday 26th July
Got up, went to the Italian cafe for breakfast and then went surfing with Andy and Rafael, Swiss and German guys from the school
Today is Kristens last day and my second to last day so we went to Babylon to celebrate. Me and Chris had too much tequila, but it was a fun night.
Sunday 27th July
My last day in Tamarindo. I went surfing with Chris and Alice in the morning. The weather was really good but the waves were a bit small as usual. We went for lunch at Noguis and then went to the internet. We went to the rooftop terrace bar (sunset bar) for a drink and then I had to say goodbye to everyone. I was sad to be leaving Tamarindo and it seemed a long time until I would be settled again. Went to Caracola with Chris for some food and drinks. Had too many rum and cokes.
