Beachside cafe
This past weekend I went on a trip starting in Alicante then to Amsterdam. After an 11 hour bus ride (ouch!) I arrived into Alicante at 9:30 AM last Friday (Feb 16, 2007). With a few hours to kill until my roommate David was finished with school (he is studying there) I enjoyed a cafe con leche right by the beach, catching up with my journal. The weather was FANTASTIC, not a cloud in the sky! As soon as we met up we ran to the beach where everyone was out, enjoying the weather. Drinking a fine spanish brew we proceeded to chill on the beach, walk through the surf to rocks in the ocean, and climb things. Pretty typical huh? The water was a little chilly to swim in, and I didn't have facilities to clean up, so not a full beach experience but it was a blast anyways - we even got a little volleyball in.
I scored with a free lunch with David's host family - we had some pretty amazing Paella. His family is an absolute riot, pretty inappropriate, just my type! I'm pretty jealous, his apartment is literally 5 minutes by foot to the beach - but he doesn't have La Giralda! After lunch we set out to climb one of the two castles in Alicante - El Castillo de Santa Barbara. Thanks to the crystal clear weather we were rewarded with incredible views! Also, we ran into some amazing graffiti on the trip down -
Gotta love Spain!
I love when street art is actually art! Before leaving for the airport to head to Amsterdam we stopped at a Pastellria and had the best pastry, ever! I wish I could share with you just how delicious it was, but I have yet to find a way to convey how flakey, crunchy, nutty, carmelly, chocolaty, rich, tasty and soft this thing was over the internet - for now a pic and that description will have to suffice!
