Sunday 1st Feb

Arrived at 15.00 and took the Airport Express to the city.

We stay at the Eaton Hotel - great location near Temple market and not far from Mong Kok markets and shopping streets. Room rather small but very nicely done and modern and service is excellent. The hotel has free Internet in the bar on LG.

After a short rest at the hotel we go to Temple street night market across the street from the hotel. Cool atmosphere, with loads of stalls selling anything and everything from shopsticks to copy designer bags... and actually everytime market traders see us (or any tourist) arriving, they start saying "copy watches", "copy handbags", "copy wallets"... Interesting thing, the bags they sell are not counterfeit imitations but they are "copies", i.e. if you look closely to their (cheap) versions of Dolce & Gabbana bags, you will see that it is actually written Dolge 8 Gabbana.......

Dinner at a Thai restaurant.

After dinner we went up to Ladies Market in Mong Kok.

Monday 2nd Feb

Breakfast - the bacon has a different taste than the one in Europe, very good actually... In addition to this "Chinese bacon", we hesitate to start the day with dumplings and noodles, both available next to cereals and croissants but decide to wait until lunchtime for that.

Morning is spent in the harbour, walking along the Avenue of Stars which offers a beautiful view on the skyscrappers of HK island.

Lunch at Serenade Restaurant (nice Dim Sums) on the harbour.

Afternoon: visit of HK island. The area around Central is reknowned for its dried seafood shops... which sell mussels, shark fins as well as octopus and other things we did not manage to identify. Well worth a visit.

On the way to the Peak tram, we walk through the antiquaires streets of Hollywood st and buy an old Chinese sword.

The Peak - the tram track is very steep which makes for an interesting experience if you are standing up! Views from the Peak are beautiful. We arrive late afternoon, just in time to see the view by day, take picture of the sunset on the bay and enjoy the view on HK as night goes down (best time). Christine participates in a quick survey (on New Year's Chinese treats) with students for the Tourism Bureau.

Dinner at Knutsford Terrace (salty prawns and beef & pancakes).

Tuesday 3rd Feb

Visit of Kowloon walled city.

Lunch in the restaurant of the shopping center next to the walled city... 2 fantastic ramens and fresh juices for less than 5 GBP.

Bought a suitcase at Temple st market.

Went to the Light Show on the Harbour (over-rated).

Dinner on the Harbour.

Wednesday 4 Feb

Visit of the Museum of Hong Kong in the morning.

En route for Sydney in the afternoon.
