Today Kaye and Patsy went on a bus tour to Lund. The cathedral looked gray and dark when we pulled up, under a cloudy sky. The interior was quite impressive, with rounded arches, Romanesque. There was also a gothic arch over the main alter. In the crypt were a forest of columns, including one with Finn the Giant and one with his wife. Finn built the cathedral, according to legend, and lost his wages in a bet with St. Lars. He was so angry he tried to shake the column and pull down the building but was turned to stone by the sun. Upstairs was a mechanical astrological clock. Twice a day the trumpeters blow and the wise men come out and bow their heads to the Christ child.
Afterwards, we went to the Kulturen, an historical collection of houses from the area, from all classes of society, rich and poor. The 'farm museum' was closed because they were putting up a new exhibit, but there were lots of other places to see - a church, a vicarage, a well-to-do farm house, a poor widow's hous (her husband was a drinker and ran off to America), and a blacksmith's house. There was sod on the roofs of several buildings. There were a burgher's house from Malmo, a rich professor's house, a church functionary's house-also a house where a man in trouble with the king hid. We had a nice bus ride back to Malmo and said good-bye to acquaintances who had gone on several tours with us. T
