Los Angeles to Apia, West Somoa
Entry 4 of 12 | show all | print this entry |
Well, Here we go again. Leaving LA, we did get another cabin. Great, a nice king size bed and a view to the outside. However, we looked through port holes instead of a window. The cabin is as far forward as you can get, Yoiks. Our first day out of LA was quite rough and we were bouncing and rolling around our nice big bed. You could here the rush of the waves against the bow. Oh well, so much for the comforts of space. This cabin is about 190 squart feet and the other came out to be about 90. boy, what a difference. Anyway, on with our cruise. First came Hilo, Hawaii after 4 not so pleasant days at sea. Here too it was raining a bit but we again had a nice tour, at least what the can show us in this weatheer. Then came Honolulu, Hawaii where I met Dotty's cousin Norman. dotty was a bit under the weather with a cold and coughing so I was it. There were big plans, but Norman's son Tao was sick too so all was cancelled so Norman and I had pizza and talked. Next was the infamous Christmas Islands where they had sosme atomic testing and evacuated the island during the tests. Another missed opportunity because the seas were too shallow and not deep enough to get our tenders safely to the tender dock so again we waved goodby to another island and just sailed away into the susnset. However, good news, each time we miss a port we get a refund from the port tax they had charged. so far it comes to about $25 each. Whooppee. Anyway, now we are at Apia in West Somoa and the weather is awfully hot and sticky. We did have the usual ceremony as we crossed the equator which was quite a to do on the ship. In a couple of days we will be crossisng the dateline and we will not have any Feb 12. Aint that something? Hey, I never did mention that practically everyday at sea we keep meeting people that we had met on previous world cruises. It is becaoming like old home week. We must have met about 25 to 30 people from previous cruises. Our friends from back home arrived on board at LA and they are now with us. tonight, Feb 10 we are having a special dinner at the ships special dining room to celebrate the birthday of some friends we had met on our FIRST world cruise. We never new that they would be on board. It really is sosmething that so many people do this year after year. Oh hey, about old home week with old friends, We just found out that these friends on board with us from Silver spring have a past history with Camp Cejwin. His uncle owned it. Just found out that way back when they knew some of Dotty's old girl friends. Ain't that something. See what world cruising can do??? Now, on to Tonga. OH NO, found out that Tonga does not want us to come so we are reschedulinhg to Fiji. Oh my, maybe another port tax refund. Great!!!! Bye for now. Keep listining.
