Where I stayed
Kerribee Park Rodeo Grounds
What I did
Went To Cairns
We arrived at the rodeo grounds to our surprise so many campers and still two weeks to rodeo, these grounds are open for campers throughout the year.We have decided to stay a week,so we can do a few day trips to other towns,it is $15 per night, which includes toilets, showers(the best),water and laundry facilities. The sunsets here are just the best, nice open areas for walking the dogs, the town is okay basic shopping, has a Coles so that is good and it has a drive through bakery(how slack is that?).We went to cairns for a day trip to get new tyres for car and get suspension on car looked at.The Esplanade was nice we sat there for lunch, being school holidays it was packed we go back in about another week so we will see what it is like.
Mareeba markets were good and the coffee shop after was even better
Early one morning we could her this noise so we looked out the window and there was a hot air balloon,Cath ran out with camera and snapped away.Got some good shots, than realizing I was in my pj's and my hair was a mess I went back in side(funny). We got to see a lot of hot air balloons as they used the rodeo grounds to land them.We met a lot of different people as they come and go at these grounds,Shandi fell in love with Tod next door he was a schnauzer they played together for quite a few days,so cute to watch. One day Shandi was sitting at their door just waiting for Tod to come out,the girls have been so good when they know we are going somewhere they just sit by the car and wait.
We went to Chillagoe for a day trip, lovely town,we went to an old smelter sight this was very interesting, copper from surrounding areas was bought here for smelting.
Also walked to the balancing rock, well what a sight the photos tell the story.
Chillagoe (including Mungana)
Isolated and historic mining township to the west of the Atherton Tablelands.
Chillagoe is one of the most interesting and unusual places in the whole of northern Queensland
The last night at Mareeba we were just sitting around and Roo went past and Chloe took chase, well off Al went.Al eventually caught Chloe, she decided to stop when she saw about 50 kangaroos in the paddock, poor Al was getting all the comments from the oldies as he went past huffing and puffing.Chloe nearly got us evicted, lucking the caretakers didn't see as dogs were suppose to be on leeds at all times.
The grounds had heaps of the kangaroos and you could get close up to them and they weren't fussed it was so nice to stand there and just watch them.
Time to head off we are off to Lakelands.
