Arrived at Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo Costa Rica, van trip was cool, a little bit of traffic due to some dump trucks in front of us and some heavy rain. Yes, its raining here, non-stop but people are out surfing in it..there are some pretty big waves, well what I can tell from the bar anyways.
Check in was easy, my room is nice, small but with a nice view of the ocean, I like it, no tv, very spartan, that is all I need. Met a few people that I met on the van ride at the bar, had a few Imperials and a Macho Taco...holy crap it was huge and sooo delicious, seared ahi tuna...and I mistakenly ordered the Big Papas (french fries), cuz im Polish and love potatoes and it was huge....im totally stuffed, we couldn't eat all the fries there were so many! Even though its raining, Im loving it, just a few hours ago I was in Charlotte..and now Im in Costa Rica...amazing. It is a really nice place, Im very impressed, nothing extravagant but well maintained and staff is very cool thus far. I looked on the board and I have my first lesson tomorrow at 745 am, originally it was at 6am but it changed for some reason, Im not complaining, i get to sleep in a little more. There is a 2 hour difference, as CR is on Central time, so it will be easy to adjust.
A lot of the people here are young and super fit, ugh...I am now remotivated to get back on the Fitness train.
I just got back from eating and having a few drinks, its only like 5:45pm here..so thought I would do the blog, take a shower and head back downstairs in a while, they have a band playing already.
I plan on being good and just hanging out a bit more, then heading back to the room and sleeping, I plan on getting as much beach time in as I can, hopefully it will stop raining and be nice tomorrow, though that will not stop me from getting in the water. Its funny, I have been watching the webcam everyday for like 3 months and never seen it raining. oh well, im still on vacation and loving the experience already.
Below I have attached the link to the surfcamp site, so check out the webcam etc

I am safe and sound, so pass that along to anyone that cares. Kos and Brenda, you should be regretting big time, not coming on this trip, its so great here.
Have a great weekend, I will blog as much as I can, and will add pics as I get them, not much take pictures of thus far, since al the rain.

9:04pm CT (rain has stopped)
Back to the room, the band was awesome, place was packed, I finally got some colones and have no clue at all what they cost, all I know is that the Red colored bill is enough for a bottle of beer, which is like $2.00 or something, but it is happy hour until 9pm, hence why Im back in my room.so no clue what a beer really costs? Met another fellow solo traveler at the bar, she is a teacher from New York, so we got Shawn from San Diego, Anna and Mia from Canada and Alexis from NY, met a couple guys from DC area as well. Saw Joe (the owner) with his wife and kids, they are so cool, kids were dancing to the music...very cool vibe here I must say, so im loving it, rain has stopped btw.
Really stoked for my first lesson tomorrow...so stay tuned for some up to date surfing action in the CR. Buenos Noches amigos y amigas.

Books Brought:

Replay - Ken Grimwood - I read a great review on this (see below) About a 40something guy who dies but then wakes up to replay his life not just once..but several times at different ages in his life.
NPR.ORG Review

The Quiet American - Graham Greene
I really thought that I had read this book a long time ago, but apparently not. I read a cool review recently and it matched perfectly for travel
NPR.ORG Review

Seven Nights - Jorge Luis Borges
I recently started reading Borges, and totally love him. And I found it fitting that since I am going to a Spanish speaking country that I read a Latino author.

In Search of Captain Zero: A Surfer's Road Trip Beyond the End of the Road - Allan Weisbecker
I know, I know, somewhat cliche' but I thought it would be a good read to have on a surf trip to Costa Rica. I am about half way thru the book now, where he is finally getting to Central America. Interesting guy, check out his website - http://www.banditobooks.com/ezine/home
