I had a fantastic experience yesterday evening.   I climbed the 532 steps up the mountain behind our college to the "Cave of the White Dragon",  it was cool and misty since it had been raining all day.   As usual there was nobody on the trail and no one in the cave or the small Buddhist shrines around the cave.   I was all alone in this beautiful ancient place in the early evening an hour before night time.  The sun had long before set behind the mountain that I had climbed. After re-lighting some old incense others left in front of the Buddha,  I wanted to stay for a while and enjoy the moment.   So I sat cross-legged beside a Buddha statue with ancient poems written on the rocks behind it. I closed my eyes and  meditated for the first time in 25 years.  Wow,  it was intense!   Almost scary,  due to the darkness and the fact that I was about 10 feet inside a wide shallow cave with tons of rocks for a ceiling.   The most peaceful place I can remember being at.  Once it started getting too dark--I slowly walked down the mountain path, which was covered with a beautiful canopy of misty trees, just descending the long stairway while listening to all the natural sounds of the birds, frogs, insects,  carefully making my way to my bike which was parked at the base of the steamy mountain.

With this new cool/wet weather we've had this past week I'm finding alternate things to do than swimming and hiding in my air conditioned apartment.   I have also discovered a nearby cinema where for 15 kwai ($2.30)  I can watch a movie with big comfortable seats and excellent sound system.  The best part is that the movies are in English and there are only a few people in the audience in fact:  I was the entire audience one night!   Tomorrow they are going to show a matinee just for me and will play "Godfather part 2" I am providing the movie.

My full class schedule started this week WOW!  Three of my classes have over 90 students,  which is twice my previous record for number of students in a class.  We do have a decent work book for curriculum but "Oral English" will be a tough subject to effectively teach with these numbers.   Good kids though.

The rest of the pics are odds and ends of my bike and motorbike trips around the area.  Forgive the quality as many of the photos were taken on the fly with my cell phone.   I must also mention that none of my "White Dragon Cave" pictures show the inside of the cave itself.  These are pictures of the places just outside the main cave.  The main cave goes deep into the mountain and is always closed by an iron door;  hopefully I will go there someday when the cave is open,  but I think I like being up there when it is closed and I am all alone.  It's tough to be all alone in China due to the massive throngs of people everywhere.   Enjoy!
