After a 7 hour journey i arrive in Guadalajara. As i pass through the outskirts of the city i pass through some poor areas and eventually arrive at the Old Bus Terminal.

I grab a taxi to Plaza de Mexico.

This is where Rocio will pick me up and bring me to her house. Rocio is a friend of a Brian`s mothers, Rita. Rocio and her 2 sisters stayed with the Gallaghers years ago when they were in Ireland studying english. So Mrs Gallagher kindly asked Rocio if she could put me up for a few days.

We pull up outside her house and as the electric gates open i see a swimmimg pool directly behind a 5-a-side soccer pitch with mini goals and nets. Her home is gorgeous and i meet her son  Jorge and her eldest daughter Rocio.

that night we go for some traditional Guadalajaran food in what they tell me is the fastest fast food place in the world. Before i sat down i had the plate of food in front of me. it was that quick. in fact i dont recall even ordering it. This place only  serves one dish so that is why it is so quick. its a beef stew of sorts with spices and of course .....chilli. They put it on everything. Jorge even puts chilli on his mango in the morning. loco!

the following day i do my usual walk the city routine. There is some great architecture here and the city is really beautiful. the temperature is around 23/24 during the day and goes down to 16/17 at night. perfect weather for an irishman.

That night Christina (niece of Rocio) , her boyfriend Manuel and other friend Lucia take me to a plush restaurant called iLatina, where there is valet parking. we have a nice night and retire early as it is only monday night.

The next Morning i visit the town of `Tequila`

Yes, there really is a town called Tequila. I am still a good hour away, when the countryside suddenly fills with plantations of the blue agave plant, the principal ingredient of tequila. When we arrive in Tequila, and step off the bus, we immediately notice that the air is filled, with the pleasant aroma of roasted agave.

Obviously, there's one thing that I absolutely must do here in this town, and that's drink a Tequila, which I accomplish at the bar in the Jose Cuevo distillery after the tour ends. it is the form of a lemon Margarita which is lovely. Unfortunately at the end of the day, i am still not a fan of tequila on its own. When mixed it is ok but on its own it makes me recall nights of vomiting on roadsides or in bars with buckets placed under you to save the dancefloor from the splashes. (remember `Howl at the moon`anyone)

That night i go to a funeral mass with Rocio and her family as her grandmother passed away recently and afterwards they have 3 masses to pay their repects.

i havent been to mass in ages but this one is good. there is a Russian choir and musicans playing throughout the ceremony and they are truely amazing. i swore it was a Cd and only believed Rocio when she pointed them out to me.

afterwards we have a gorgeous italian meal with all the family and i meet Rocio`s mother and father. Both with great English also. in fact everyone here has great English. I have to learn my spanish quick.

The following morning Rocio drops me off at the bus stop.

I have had a great time with Rocio and her family. they went out of their way to help me and bring me out every night. I have been sleeping in Jorge`s bedroom for the last 3 nights so i guess he will be very happy to have his room back from the stinky gringo. He is such a nice boy and a great footballer. He plays in goal this friday in the semi final. So Buena Suerte (good luck) Jorge! y gracias for todo. estan me otra famila en Mexico!

From Guadalajara I travel down to the Pacific coast and to the popular resort town of Puerto Vallarta and hopefully some partying!
