Well i finally arrived in Chicago after a 8 hr flight from Dublin. I met my friend Mylene in her neighbourhood of Wickerpark just a few stops outside the city. She is living with 3 amazing girls who are all so friendly and really take good care of Mylene and also of me while i stayed there. As i was a little tired on the first night we stayed and Mylene cooked some pasta and pesto. the first day i went down to the beach which is on Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan comes right up to the skyscapers here and is a real oasis in the city. After walking around the lake for a while i started towards the city centre. As i was doing this i noticed my flip flops were beginning to cut into my feet. this always happens when i dont wear them for a while. by the days end my feet were in ribbons and i had to buy some shoes in Payless Shoes. the cheaper the better. You can see picture of my feet above
that day i took the CAF (Chicago Architectual Foundation) boat tour. The Chicago River flows directly through the city and the boat ride offers views of all of Chicago's amazing and varied architecture.
After the boatride i just rambled through the city and met Mylene in Millenium Park which was hosting Gospel Choir festival all weekend. The stage and surroundings were designed by Frank Gehry (of guggenheim, Bilbao fame), so it is truely beautiful.
that night Mylene and I went for Thai food in her neighbourhood and danced til all hours at her local club, Victory. (we owned the dancefloor that place. no-one could touch us)
the following day i just walked the city in my new shoes and sore feet and when out again in Wickerpark with Mylene and her housemate. Some lovely Tapas in `Peoples` and then some all night dancing in Debonair Nightclub.
i found Chicago to be a really cool city and really safe. definitely would come back here.
