The plane flight was ok. Air Mauritius service was quite slow. They hardly ever come past to ask you what you want. I spent a lot of time down the back kitchen having drinks with Joe.

We arrived into Mauritius around 5:00pm. Flying over Mauritius was spectacular. Didn't look like any country I have been to. Mainly volcanos and 15ft high sugar cane, with small houses and narrow roads. As the sun set ash was falling from the sky. Apparently they still use the old method of harvesting sugarcane, burning the leaves off, leaving the stalks, where they cut and extract the sugar from.

We were greeted by Marcel, a man from Mauritius who works for MSA travel in Melbourne, and taken to our hotel on a silver Mercedes Benz Mini bus. (the best car I've seen so far on the island) Beach from the sky

After an hour of travelling through small windy roads, surrounded by 15 ft high sugar cane and small villages we arrived at a huge gate with three security guards. We were at Belle Mare Plage ( 4 star) on the North East Coast.

Travelling through the gate my eyes popped out of my head, as we discovered the extremely well maintained gardens, with the night lighting emphasising the architecture of this amazing hotel. We had our car unpacked and were escorted to a lounge which looked of the resort. Sipping my peach iced tea I then noticed that the ocean was only fifty meters away on the other side of the biggest swimming pool I had ever seen.

We were shown to our rooms, about 150 meters from the main building, yet closer to the ocean. We had a huge room with queen size beds, big twin bathrooms (for his/her), a office table, lounge suite for four people on the inside and outside. I freshened up and met everyone at the biggest restaurant I've seen, La Citronnelle. A smorgasbord style venue, covering five different continents of food. We had waiters helping us carry our food back to our table and other staff pushing in our seats. The whole area was surrounded by water which dropped off into the main pool, illuminated by lights.
