Today began with another breakfast in the sunshine accompanied with fresh-fruit drinks. Then we sorted-out some of our Action Packers to be ready for our trip to the border the following day. At 11:00am, we trouped accross the street to a Starbucks to met Steve & Oddny Gumear (founders of Partners) and daughter, Naomi. We had about an hour visit, and then were off to prepare for our first New Year's party with Tom & Connie Robinson.
Happy New Year, everyone! Our celebration consisted of a fabulous display of fireworks launched from the ancient wall just accross from our hotel. From our vantage-point on the fifth floor, and were able to look-out over the entire town of fireworks. It was quite a long and colorful display! The courtyard across from the hotel was full of craft and food vendors, as well as a stage of live entertainment. The sky was filled with beautiful Chinese lanterns floating gracefully out of sight. At the stoke of the New Year, the sky exploded all over the city with colorful fireworks, bottle rockets, and roman candles, and continued for about 30-minutes. These people know how to party!
Tom, Connie & Jenny
Tom & Connie Robinson, and their daughter, Jenny, traveled from Fairbanks, Alaska a few months ago to live in Chiang Mai for about six months.
Tom & Connie's House
They are currently involved in learning the Thai language with lessons every day. Then they will offer their time and talents to Partners where needed. They have rented a house with a pool, so we enjoyed a swim during the party.

Alaska Team Thaw!
Unfortunately, Jocelyn became quite ill, and had a fever mixed with chills, so she did not attend the party, but stayed at the hotel to rest. After the party, the entire team gathered at her bedside to offer their prayers for her good health and the new year.Happy New Year, everyone!
