With a little time before my flight I took the subway down to the corner of Central Park and 5th Avenue wandering through the green oasis in the city to stretch my legs. The park was just as busy as always with the ice rink full and plenty of joggers, cyclists, rollerbladers and squirrels going about squirrelly things.
With one last look at the city from the park I descended into the subway finally getting the right line after all the subway detours here taking the express all the way to JFK airport.
After having to take my shoes off and through the x-ray scanner at airport security I was soon waiting by the departure gate staring at another Virgin Atlantic plane having pushed this final flight home as far back as it would go with less than 4 hours left before the ticket expired all the while laughing at my original notion of being home before Christmas
The flight was not that full so triggered a mass scramble for spare seats after take off. I was not sure what I feel other than a headache watching the lights of New York, America and this journey slip away beneath as we climbed into the clouds.
The end of a year of traveling, I was tired but didn't feel like sleeping, thinking of seeing everyone back home wondering how I'll ever describe all the things I saw, felt, tasted, heard, people I met, experiences and feelings knowing that only experiencing it themselves would they understand.
