This is the first hostel, in fact the first anywhere, that I've come across double bed sized bunk beds, pity it is let down by finding a 'how to eradicate bed bugs' website left on the computer screen after the owner had used it.
Taking the Subway over to Arlington National Cemetery, America's most revered military cemetery, I had arrived just in time to witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns appearing to be just as important for those performing in it as those watching on asking for emails of pictures due to their official photographer being a no show. After visiting JFK's Grave and the Marine Corps memorial I took a wander down beside the Potomac river with another clear day although still cool with plenty of yesterday's snow underfoot. Crossing over the river opposite the Pentagon it was more memorial time (think there is almost as many of the here as there is blacked out US government cars) coming up to Jefferson's Memorial, another Greek Temple affair with a direct view straight across to the White House.
Looping round I decided to try and squeeze in a few more of the Smithsonian museums from yesterday but only finding time to check out the Natural History Museum with some well-done dinosaurs displays although with a few added Americanized labels such as "Who would win? T-Rex vs Triceratops!". The museum had already eating up most of my time with none left to check out any others as I wandered through the streets for one last gander at the White House. Along the way I noticed advertising for the cherry blossom season thinking they must bloom at a different time of year than in Japan without realizing for a second it was nearly a year ago since I was there. It really started to hit home just how long I had been away with a whole four seasons having passed, although I've only seen two.
Spent the evening talking for ages with Waylin from Massachusetts but originally Taiwan telling me that it is tradition to cook pigs legs wrapped in long noodles for loved ones returning home from traveling. Will have to speak to Mum about that. More thumbnails ...
