We did though, and being President's day we felt we should celebrate this momentous day (despite none of us having a clue about it) and with Chris's exclamation of "I feel like a beer" it wasn't long before we were in a bar with a convenient mid-afternoon happy hour. Watching the rain from inside we remembered one of things we were told on arriving in Seattle: 'It rains, here, deal with it' with the Seattleites trying to a put a positive spin on it by saying they love the rain. Convincing nobody here.
A few beers and some nonsensical talk later we moved on to another watering hole having spotted it's happy hour earlier. On entering we must have looked like the feebly poor travelers we were being immediately offered $1 cans of beer which with little shame we happily took. And again...and again.
With two happy hours down we were back down the street to a third trying some recommend German beer which giving the company was not gonna argue. This place was actually a Thai restaurant with attached bar so we ordered a few nibbles that just made us more hungry.
Dan had spied a burger joint the day before which was to be the answer but re-finding the place was another matter walking up and down streets looking for it with all of them looking the same in the dark after quite a few drinks. Finding it at last the place was a slice of Americana being a 50's style diner complete with mini-juke boxes on each table and some Sinatra already playing. I know being a foodie it has seemed like sometimes I've been eating my way around the world but this had to have been the best burger ever, though hard to go wrong when stuffed with bacon, a slab of cheese thicker than the rainclouds outside plus a mountain of onion rings. Expensive however but positive someone at the White House will pick up the tab for our patriotism today.
A few games of pool later I'm sure helped to work off my expanding USA waistline it added to as well.
