Well time to leave the Bay of Islands and sadly soon time to leave New Zealand as I bordered my last bus heading back south to Auckland.
The same bus journey north which I slept most of the way through now had me wishing I could do the same again simply to no longer have to be conscious after a kid puked up near the air conditioning unit filling the coach with eau de chocolat milk.
The trip did give my time to reflect on my journey around New Zealand and knew that I would certainly be back here again one day hopefully in the winter or early spring to see the southern mountains at their most spectacular, not that they were slouches in the summer.
Auckland was hosting a Big Day Out today a large concert seeing every hostel and guest house filled out for miles around which I had only found out about a little before I left the city to head north. Luckily the friendly hostel I stayed at before had offered to let me crash on the couch for free since I would have to be up and out to the airport after only a few hours shut eye anyway.
Of course this little shut eye was never gonna happen and so I was soon joined in the common area of the hostel by a group of returning Big Day Outers from Christchurch as we sat up till the early morning drinking beer and passing round their huge reserves of chocolate making a memorable end to my time in this amazing country.
