Moving on north today I took the small kiwi traveler bus up to Tongariro National Park home of New Zealand's best 1 day walk.
Dan who also got on at Wellington was planning on doing the same walk being one of those travelers who immediately introduces himself were doing the same back home would probably have the introducee slowly backing away.
The 5 hour-ish journey revealed the north island's flatter landscape compared to made up of mainly farm land rather than the south's mountains. This soon changed though on approaching the national park with the high peaks re-appearing with Mt Ruapehu's summit hidden in cloud but it's base dominating the horizon.
Dan and I got off at the National Park backpackers, another YHA offering an indoor climbing wall which certainly makes a change to the usual TV lounge.
