Saar was leaving today for Wellington to catch his flight back to Sydney leaving me to explore Nelson on my lonesome as I ventured into the heart of New Zealand, or a popular spot marked as the geographical centre of New Zealand - they would have to lump it on top of a big bloody hill though wouldn't they.

The views from the top overlooking Nelson and across to Abel Tasman were once again worth the short climb getting a good chance to size up the town from above appearing like most settlements in New Zealand as pretty small. One thing it did have going for it just now though was a Jazz festival with one small troupe entertaining passer-bys just off the main town drag and also not far from the most famous jeweler of them all, or the one who forged the one ring anyway from LOTR. Must certainly not harm business much.

Starting to look not too far off a wookie I went for a much needed haircut settling on a place close by offering backpacker discounts. Speaking with the barber as he gave me a good clip around the ears he also turned out to be a fountain of travel advice, no doubt bolstered by the number of other Chewbacca like travelers stumbling through his doors, as he gave me the lowdown on Nelson, sunniest place in New Zealand, as well as proposed future hotspots in the north island where I would soon be invading. Think the Woody Allen lookalike in the hostel should have been next in line though.
