Like a few of the towns I've stopped in along the East coast Cairns is very much a tourist town, but with a difference. That difference is in the people who make up the tourists, for once not being the English or Germans, instead it is the Japanese.

It is not just the odd few though or even a handful the number of Japanese here would make you think you were back in the land of the rising sun with even the shop signs being in Japanese followed by little English characters adorning the front of another place selling boomerangs and cuddly koalas. I guess it is the reef that attracts them here which is kinda odd seeing as how few of them seem to actually be able to swim.

Spent some time diving in and out of various dive shops trying to find the best deal on a days diving on the reef while also not wanting to have to join those selling kangaroo beer holders to be able to afford it Big Jelly Babies

A free BBQ in the hostel was a welcome addition unlike the dead end also staying here boasting about how little he has done in 2 years and how little of it he can remember.

"Scotland, that's an island right?"
"Err...yeah, the UK, maybe you've heard of it."

"Get a job you hippy!"
