With the wind still strong enough to prompt most operators into not letting any sea based activities go ahead including snorkeling and with the other islands other big attraction being a Koala sanctuary which I didn't want to now pay to see what I saw in the wild yesterday I went for another walk today. But only after building up the energy beside the pool of course.
Heading down the beach I had to scramble over some huge rocks along the shore line realizing how rocky this island is and how it got it's namesake from old Captain Cook himself believing the many rocks on the island were effecting his compass though doubt he ever called it 'Maggie' to sound like one of the locals,
Nelly Bay is the main port of the island not that you would really notice with it following the rest of the islands quiet laid back atmosphere with the only thing going anywhere fast being the mini mokes which you can hire for the day to explore the island, a sort of simple jeep looking like it is made from the least number of parts possible to actually make it go. With everyone lazing around in the evening (seems to be the theme here), Rob one of the English guys from last night decides to go get some grog from the bottle shop having to hide on the way back with the hostels no alcohol in the dorms policy on seeing a staff member. What he failed to see though was the snake curled up next to him after he almost put his hand on it scaring the life out of him.
Always funny when a grown man screams like an 8 year old girl but it at least it gave the rest of us a chance to see our first snake in the wild. More thumbnails ...
