Plan today was to get up early and grab the first bus to Erawan National Park with the first half of the plan resulting in mission failed.

Anyway, a couple of hours later than planned I hopped on a local bus to the park taking around 1.5 hours to get there plus another 30 minutes sitting stewing on the bus before it actually moved.

With a sign indicating a possible 400 Baht entrance fee coming into effect next month I happily coughed up the current 200 Baht ticket price even if I was here only to see a waterfall.

With the sun shining on a beautiful cloudless day I started the walk alongside the 7 tiered Erawan waterfall which could have come straight out of a picture postcard scene with clear turquoise water with fish swimming around and monkeys messing about it in the trees above.

Coming to the first tier of the waterfall that is almost what it evoked with it being an example of every tropical paradise setting I've seen with the large pool beneath proving to inviting to resist for a swim even if the fish had other ideas and would nibble your feet if you stayed still too long.

I continued up the waterfall on the 2km trek to the top passing the other 6 tiers with more tempting swimming opportunities carved out of the limestone rock.

Back at the bottom and after one more dip I met a group of young Thais who invited be over for a drink when I spotted a huge lizard on the other side of the river that had to have been a close relative to Godzilla as I was just glad there was an expanse of water between me and it.

Tucking into some pad thai back in Kanchanaburi I was more amused by the English subtitles on the film being shown than the film itself with the subtitles rarely matching what was happening on screen and being missing altogether whenever somebody spoke too fast for the what must have been an 8 year old doing the translating.
