Night buses why do we take them?
On finally arriving at your destination feeling (and looking) like crap after no sleep, a seat that is guaranteed not to recline while the one in front will defy all known laws of physics in just how horizontal it will get and your neck feeling like it was actually driven over by the bus you ask yourself why you didn't just fly. ...Ah cheap, now I remember. Declining the hotel the bus stopped at, Dylan and I ambled just over the road and down a quiet side street to come across a decent little place at half the price for just $3 each even it if did require hoofing up more stairs that I thought possible to fit in a building of its size.
Heading out for breakfast and feeling even more hungry after the tiniest little croissant I had at a small cafe (a croissant should not be able to be eaten in one bite) we came across a baguette stand with full 'the works' baguettes for 5000 dong which were just the ticket after the {sarcasm} fun bus journey {/sarcasm}. Once I'd caught up on some stolen sleep we went for a wander to check out what Nha Trang, the beach capital of Vietnam, had to offer. Unsurprisingly then we only really found the beach which was actually not quite as nice as the one in Hoi An with coarser sand and more 'sunglasses' and 'zippo lighter' vendors hanging around than there were people.
After another cat-nap and baguette (there really good, really) we headed out in search of an elusive Australian bar we'd heard of and with Dylan coming from that neck of the woods we figured we would investigate. We stopped first though at one of the many bars offering drinks promotions so after a couple of buckets of cocktails and some Vietnamese vodka which I'm sure was almost burning through the glass we finally tracked down the Australian bar. Ok so the only thing Australian about it in the end was the didgeridoo ornaments and a fluffy kangaroo stuck to the wall but the drinks were cheap and the staff friendly so we stuck it out playing a few games of pool. At some point from somewhere a game of Jenga appeared as we tried our less than coordinated best to play with a few of the Vietnamese staff who I'm sure only bought us more beer simply to give them an advantage, crafty. To bookend the day with more pain, one of my flip-flops flopped for the last time on the way back to the guest house with me standing banging on the wrong gate trying to get someone to let me in for 10 minutes until I realized the guest house was actually the one next door, doh!
